Everyone Knew He Was Capable, but No One Said or Did Anything About It
Nikolas Cruz is alleged to have premeditated the murder of students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, a school from which he was expelled for disciplinary reasons.
To a student, no one was surprised that he did this.

From a Foxnews.com story:
“Honestly, a lot of people were saying it was gonna be him,” the unnamed student told the news station. He said kids joked around that the student would be the one to “shoot up the school.”
If the students knew, you can assume the teachers knew, which then means the school's administration knew all this.
Yet, not a peep was heard from law enforcement or some other agency to be on the lookout for this kid.
How, then, could this have happened? How did this young man come to "own" a firearm at all?
A Cruz family friend from Long Island, where the Cruz family is originally from, said she believed Nikolas Cruz "had issues" and was taking medication. Yet again, someone knew about Nikolas, but no one said anything.
Sound familiar? Refer back to the Harvey Weinstein debacle.
Once again Cruz's classmates said he was posting "sketchy" things on social media. He was known as a "loner", a "sketchy dude" that was troubled and caused trouble.
Columbine happened 19 years ago and I'm afraid, like the lessons we haven't learned from 9/11, we've learned nothing as a nation from that horrible crime.
Here are some things we need to own up to America:
Guns Are NOT the Problem
Guns aren't the problem. Guns are instruments, tools, if you will. They are amoral. Have no way of knowing how they'll be used. Like any other implement, guns can be used for good, as well as bad. Limiting guns, taking away guns from law-abiding Americans is not the answer. It's time for the anti-gun people to admit that.
People Are the Problem
Here we have yet another seemingly disturbed individual that had access to a firearm. People, and unfortunately, young people, have a problem. They stick their faces on their phones all day and consume all sort of horrible material. They are alone with their thoughts and interact with the wrong people on the Internet without anyone being the wiser. Their young, developing minds are being mishaped into deviant thinkers and society, instead of promoting not accepting these types of thinking, is teaching our children to embrace all sorts of things as "normal". We allow our children access to all sorts of violence and they, quite frankly, have become numb to it. It means nothing to them. Then, when you get a child that has a predisposition to violence, this often manifests itself into some sort of destructive behavior.
Criminals do not follow laws, that's what makes them criminals, after all. So, no amount of restrictive gun laws will stop crimes from being committed.
Society is the Problem
We've learned as a society in America that you can never criticize or seemingly speak against anyone for any reason, thus no one speaks out about what they see that might cause a problem. "See something, say something" are just words to make us feel safer, but society has yet to embrace that philosophy, so, as a result, we have horrendous crimes like what occurred in Florida this week happening.
We have Yet to Address the Obvious
We need to protect our schools. Americans are not willing to "do what's necessary" to protect our children. We need a comprehensive plan to provide every school with trained, armed guards, protective equipment, such as metal detectors and concrete barriers and surveillance equipment.
We also need a better handle on the mentally ill. That system is broken and we need to come together and somehow make sure those who have a mental illness do not have access to firearms. I'm not sure how you do that, but there has to be a solution to that problem as we see time and time again someone with "an issue" take a firearm (whether legally obtained or not) and cause destruction to human life, most often not their own.
Though the NICS is not foolproof, it at least is an attempt to ensure only those Americans who should, have access to legally-obtained firearms. We need to somehow attach this system to a database of those people who should not have access to firearms.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) is a respected resource for all things gun safety. Own It? Respect It. Secure It® is a program they've created that advocates gun safety. It's a great program and seeks to educate all legal gun owners on gun safety. We Need to Have Open, Honest, and Non-Contentious Discussions
It's time we stopped shouting each other down with our talking points and sit down and have an honest discussion on how we protect our children. It's about their safety, after all. They are the vulnerable ones. As adults, it's up to us. Let's all take a breath, swallow our pride and sit down as Americans and come up with a solution, so no more of these horrible crimes happens again, without at least some attempt to stop them while preserving the rights of all of us.
May God bless you and may God bless America.
